We love pizza. OK, so everyone loves pizza. The difference is that, since 2003, pizza has also been our passion. Back then, Christoph opened a pizzeria directly opposite the University of Passau in Germany, where he was studying business at the time. It was a spur-of-the-moment thing. The restaurant had been vacant for some time and the university’s dining hall had just closed. Besides, Christoph simply wanted to get a taste of what it’s like to run a business.

But right from the start, quality topped his priority list. So he opened the city’s only wood-fired pizzeria. And he didn’t stop there. In pursuit of the perfect pizza, the team took an extended field trip to Italy and collected endless ideas for recipes. What followed was a whole lot of taste tests and tweaks with various groups of people.

At the end of this long refinement process, we finally created “our” pizza. And Passau went wild for them. They were such a hit that soon the business grew to include three more restaurants and a delivery service.

Then one day a thought crossed our minds: What if it were possible to freeze all that genuine Italian goodness so more people could enjoy it at home? We just couldn’t let go of the idea. And that’s how Gustavo Gusto got started.

But the best of all is—our original recipe remains unchanged to this day.
